Nothing We Do Can Improve on God

God’s blessing makes life rich; Nothing we do can improve on God. Proverbs 10:22 (Message Bible)
There are a multitude of things we try to do to improve our lives: we do home improvement. We do self improvement through weight-loss and exercise. We change our hair color, our glasses, and our clothes. We improve our jobs through training—and sometimes we just change jobs. We improve our knowledge and skills through education. We try to improve our relationships and our marriages and our ministries. Why do we do all this? I think it’s to enrich our lives; to increase our level of satisfaction in life. If nothing else, we can, like Thomas Jefferson, call it “the pursuit of happiness.”
But the Word of God tells us that there’s only one thing that can really make us rich: the blessing of God. Although we can place ourselves in a position to receive it, it’s not something that we can “earn.” But when we do receive it, there’s nothing else we need do to improve on what God does. Only His blessing satisfies; only His blessing enriches. And best of all, He doesn’t mix into His blessing any distress, pain, sorrow, or grief.
“I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.”Deuteronomy 30:19b (NKJV)
