“But I Didn’t Mean To…”

“I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.” And they said, “What is that to us? You see to it.” Matthew 27:4 (NKJV)
“But I didn’t mean to hurt Johnny, it was an accident!” Oh, I’ve heard that so many times. But you know what? That other child was still hurt and needed care. Sometimes we can’t undo what we have done. We can’t put the skin back on the knee, or stop the sting of pain, or take back that hurtful thing that was said.
The rest of this chapter details all that Jesus did after Judas betrayed Him. Jesus faced Pilate, He took Barabbas’ place, the soldiers mocked Him, He laid Himself down on the cross and He died and was buried! What a chain of reaction that Judas started… “But, it was an accident!” The Pharisees didn’t care; they got what they wanted—Jesus’ death.
The next chapter shows how Jesus was victorious, even though Judas betrayed Him. Jesus went through all that so that we could receive forgiveness. WOW!
We all make mistakes, but Jesus took our sins upon the cross so that we could receive forgiveness from God the Father. The veil was torn, the earth quaked, rocks split, and saints were raised. We are free!
What a friend we have in Jesus!
