The Choices We Make

Psalms 59-60

Deliver me from my enemies, O my God… Through God we will do valiantly, for it is He who shall tread down our enemies. Psalm 59:1, 60:12 (NKJV)

These two psalms are great examples of David making a choice to follow God in the midst of difficult circumstances. He is definitely in the midst of hard times. In one Psalm he is hiding from Saul, and in the other he is in a battle. He is afraid and feeling very overwhelmed at the beginning of the two Psalms, but he makes a choice that he is going to depend on God and trust Him. David chooses to believe and trust God in the midst of his circumstances.

Sometimes that’s just what we have to do, even though we don’t feel that is what we want to do. It’s almost like going down a road and coming to a fork where you have to make a choice about which fork to take.

Are you going to be discouraged, or are you going to believe God and be joyful? Are you going to complain, or trust? Are you going to sink into depression or are you going to choose to believe God? These can be very important decision points in our lives. At these times, we NEED to remember that we are volitional and can choose what we are going to do, feel, and how we are going to respond. In every circumstance, we can respond in faith, believing that God will take us through whatever we are facing. Let’s choose to be overcomers, and together we can sing, “Through God we shall do valiantly: for it is He who shall tread down our enemies.”
