Once one of the wealthiest of the European colonies in the world, Haiti is currently the second-poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, ranking 204 out of 227 in the world with an estimated $660 per/person annual income. Since the earthquake devastated the Port-au-Prince area in January 2010, the region has been ripe for reconstruction and spiritual renewal.
